Dear seeker, confusion and restlessness of the mind are common on the spiritual path. Lord Shiva, in his teachings and form as Dakshinamurthy—the ultimate Guru—reminds us that the true Guru resides within. Even if an external Guru has not appeared, you can begin your sadhana (spiritual practice) by turning inward, seeking Shiva in your heart.
Sin (pāpa) is not an obstacle that cannot be overcome. Lord Shiva is known as Ashutosh—the easily pleased—and is the destroyer of sins. Through sincere repentance, chanting of Shiva’s names (such as “Om Namah Shivaya”), and maintaining truth (sathya) in your actions, you can purify your mind and karma.
Start with small acts of worship: light a lamp before a Shiva lingam or image, offer water or bilva leaves, and sit in quiet meditation, chanting “Om Namah Shivaya.” Ask Lord Shiva to guide you, and trust that when the time is right, the Guru will appear—either externally or as inner wisdom.
Remember, Lord Shiva teaches patience, surrender, and perseverance. Do not lose heart. The path will clear as your devotion deepens.
