Namaskara! It is truly a blessing to perform Girivalam (circumambulation) and have darshan of Lord Shiva at Tiruvannamalai, the sacred Arunachaleswarar Temple. According to Lord Shiva’s teachings, visiting such holy places with devotion, performing pradakshina around Arunachala, and having darshan helps in the removal of ignorance (avidya) and purification of one’s mind.Arunachala is considered the embodiment of Lord Shiva himself, the Agni (fire) Linga among the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams. The Girivalam, performed on Poornima (full moon) days or with true devotion, is believed to burn away karma and spiritual impurities. Many saints, including Sri Ramana Maharshi, have spoken about the immense spiritual significance of circumambulating Arunachala.
