Namaskara. In the teachings and philosophy of Lord Shiva, compassion, service (seva), and respect for elders, especially one’s parents, hold great importance. Lord Shiva is known as the ideal householder (Grihapati) as well as the ascetic. He taught that caring for one's family and elders is a sacred duty (dharma).
Refusing food to a mother-in-law who is unwell and needs care is not in alignment with Shiva’s teachings. Shiva's consort, Devi Parvati, is revered for her devotion and service to her family. In the scriptures, such as the Shiva Purana, there is great emphasis on honoring and serving parents, especially when they are in need.
No authentic teaching of Lord Shiva encourages neglect or disrespect toward parents. In fact, neglecting one’s duty towards one's mother is considered a deviation from dharma. Compassion, forgiveness, and seva are at the heart of Shaiva philosophy.
If someone claims that “God said” to deny food or care, it is wise to reflect deeply, for true divine guidance will never contradict the basic principles of kindness and duty. Shiva teaches us to rise above personal disputes and serve with love and humility.
May Lord Shiva guide all to act with compassion and righteousness.
