The trident, known as the Trishula in Sanskrit, is one of the most important symbols associated with Lord Shiva. It is his primary weapon and holds deep spiritual significance in Shaivism.The Trishula has three prongs, and each prong represents a fundamental aspect of existence:

2. Preservation (Sthiti)
3. Destruction (Samhara)
These correspond to the powers of creation, maintenance, and dissolution in the universe. By holding the Trishula, Lord Shiva demonstrates his mastery over these three cosmic functions. Additionally, the three prongs are also said to symbolize:
- The three gunas (qualities) — Sattva (goodness), Rajas (activity), and Tamas (inertia).
- The three time periods — Past, Present, and Future.
