FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS

Maha Shivaratri

This is the most important festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, celebrated annually in honor of his marriage to Goddess Parvati. It falls on the 14th night of the new moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna (February-March).

Pradosh Vrat

This bi-monthly event occurs on the 13th day of every fortnight in the Hindu calendar. Devotees observe a fast and perform special prayers to seek Lord Shiva blessings.

Shravan Maas

The entire month of Shravan (July-August) is considered highly auspicious for worshiping Lord Shiva. Devotees often observe fasts, visit Shiva temples, and perform special rituals.

Kanwar Yatra

During Shravan Maas, devotees, known as Kanwariyas, undertake a pilgrimage to fetch holy water from the Ganges River and offer it to Shiva temples, particularly in Haridwar and Varanasi.

Thiruvathira

Celebrated mainly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, this festival falls in the month of Dhanu (December-January). It commemorates the birthday of Lord Shiva and his cosmic dance.

Kalashtami

Observed on the eighth day after the full moon (Krishna Paksha Ashtami) each month, this day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Bhairava, a fierce manifestation of Shiva.
