Shiv Chalisa

The Shiv Chalisa is a prayer dedicated to Lord Shiva, extolling his virtues and seeking his blessings for spiritual and worldly fulfillment.

जय गणेश गिरिजा सुवन, मंगल मूल सुजान।
कहत अयोध्यादास तुम, देउ अभय वरदान॥

जय गिरिजा पति दीन दयाला,
सदा करत संतन प्रतिपाला।

भाल चंद्रमा सोहत नीके,
कानण कुंडल नाग फनी के॥

अँग गौर शिर गांजे उजागारा,
चाँद्रमा कोटि बदन काजरार॥

शंकर सहस्त्र नाम तिहारो,
अनुष्टुप छंद भजहु संभारो॥

नंदि गणेश सोहत चितवही,
मंगल कारण विघ्न विनाशन हरहि॥

श्री अमित विक्रम बजरंगी,
कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी॥

कंचन ठाल कपूर लोचन ला,
जाके मृग मद बिलोचन ला॥

वस्त्र कटीत भगवान त्रासी,
संकर शेष मुकुट बिलासी॥

कांवड़ जांइ भालकंठ लागो,
मृग मधुकरी अधर रागो॥

संकधिक राजेश्वर भवानी,
भारी बिलोक्य सोहत निज मानी॥

कर त्रिशूल शंकर चंद्रमां,
जस करत सदा शतानन्दमां॥

नंदि गणेश जाने बैरागी,
वृंदा वनी विहंगम भागी॥

श्री गणेशजी की आरती जो कोई नर गावे।
कहत शिवानंद स्वामी, मनवांछित फल पावे॥

Meaning:

• जय गणेश गिरिजा सुवन (Jai Ganesh Girija Suwan): Victory to the son of Gauri (Parvati) and the one who brings auspiciousness, Lord Ganesh.

• मंगल मूल सुजान (Mangal Mool Sujaan): The root of all auspiciousness, who is wise and virtuous.

• कहत अयोध्यादास तुम (Kahat Ayodhya Daas Tum): Ayodhya Das praises You,

• देउ अभय वरदान (Deu Abhay Varadan): Bestowing the gift of fearlessness.

• जय गिरिजा पति दीन दयाला (Jai Girija Pati Deen Dayala): Victory to the compassionate husband of Girija (Parvati),

• सदा करत संतन प्रतिपाला (Sada Karat Santan Pratipala): Always nurturing and protecting the devotees.

• भाल चंद्रमा सोहत नीके (Bhaal Chandrama Sohat Nike): The moon adorns your forehead beautifully,

• कानण कुंडल नाग फनी के (Kanan Kundal Naag Phani Ke): With earrings of snakes in your ears.

• अँग गौर शिर गांजे उजागारा (Ang Gaur Shir Ganje Ujagara): Your body is fair and your head shines brightly,

• चाँद्रमा कोटि बदन काजरार (Chandrama Koti Badan Kajarar): Your body is as fair as a million moons.

• शंकर सहस्त्र नाम तिहारो (Shankar Sahasra Naam Tiharo): You have thousands of names, O Shankar,

• अनुष्टुप छंद भजहु संभारो (Anushtup Chand Bhajahu Sambharo): I sing hymns in your praise.

• नंदि गणेश सोहत चितवही (Nandi Ganesh Sohat Chitvahi): Nandi and Ganesh are your attendants,

• मंगल कारण विघ्न विनाशन हरहि (Mangal Karan Vighna Vinashan Harahi): You are the cause of auspiciousness and the destroyer of obstacles.

• श्री अमित विक्रम बजरंगी (Shri Amit Vikram Bajarangi): Your form is powerful like Bajarangbali (Hanuman),

• कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी (Kumati Nivar Sumati Ke Sangi): You dispel the folly and stay with the wise.

• कंचन ठाल कपूर लोचन ला (Kanchan Thaal Kapur Lochan La): A golden platter with incense and lamp in hand,

• जाके मृग मद बिलोचन ला (Jake Mrag Mad Bilochan La): On whose glance a deer gets drunk.

• वस्त्र कटीत भगवान त्रासी (Vastr Katiit Bhagwan Trasi): God's fears don't wear Jehovah
